Merit Hagenkort is an author and illustrator based in San Francisco. She was born in Cologne, Germany, and has also lived in Norway, England, and other parts of the USA. She holds degrees in Political Sociology from the University of Konstanz and Cambridge University in the UK.
With her art, Merit wants to tell stories and create rich and colorful worlds to crawl into and find comfort. When she is not illustrating or writing, Merit likes to be outdoors with her friends and her little dog Coconut. She also enjoys playing boardgames, cooking, gardening, looking at art, arranging and rearranging the furniture in her house, and reading on the couch.
Merit works mostly with ink and water color, both on paper and on her iPad. She is currently open to a wide range of projects, including children’s, editorial, and commercial illustrations. She also sells some of her original prints in her online shop. Merit is open for representation and is currently finishing up a children’s novel.
